About

Hi I'm Steve and I create music primarily through free improvisation on the piano.  I play in my own unique style, influenced by classical composers like Debussy, Rachmaninoff, and Ives as well as many modern and world music traditions, from Jazz to Balinese Gamelan.  I first started to improvise in this manner 25 years ago when I was in college but my journey was halted long ago.  Now I'm back to creating new music often.  I hope you'll join me on my journey as I create new pieces and expand my improvisational technique.

In 2023 I plan to release several new albums, starting with my premiere double disc studio album, "43". I am also going to be releasing a wide variety of improvisations I've created in my home studio on YouTube and here on this site.

I'm an alum of Brandeis University, where I studied composition, musicology and choral conducting. I've also studied composition and world music at Cal Arts, CSU-Northridge and MIT. Before college I went to the prestigious Hamilton Music Academy (AMPA) in Los Angeles.  In addition to piano, I also play Continuum Fingerboard, many synthesizers, Balinese Gamelan, African percussion, concert percussion, and harmonica. I am an expert in music technology and have advised hundreds of composers and recording engineers. I am also an accomplished choral singer, having performed with the Angeles Chorale at Disney Hall and many venues throughout Los Angeles.
